Kamala Harris appears on ‘Saturday Night Live’ days before election

Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance on “Saturday Night Live” just three days before Election Day.
Harris dished advice to Maya Rudolph’s impersonation of her as part of the show’s cold open.
“Gosh, I wish I could talk to someone who’s been in my shoes,” Rudolph, appearing as Harris, said. “You know, a Black South Asian woman running for president, preferably from the Bay Area.”
The camera then cut to Harris, to raucous cheers from the audience. She gave “herself” advice in the campaign’s final days.
“I’m just here to remind you, you got this,” Harris said. “Keep calm-ala and carry on-ala.”
After the two-minute conversation, Harris and Rudolph delivered the opening “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night” in unison.
Harris’ appearance on the long-running sketch comedy show just days before the election was a surprise, as she was scheduled to travel from Charlotte to Detroit, keeping her focus on two of the seven battleground states.
However, when her plane was in the air from Charlotte, aides told reporters she would actually be landing in New York. She arrived at 30 Rock around 8 p.m., leaving a few hours for rehearsal before her 11:30 p.m. appearance. She left immediately afterward.
“It was fun,” she told reporters while boarding Air Force Two, finally bound for Detroit.
Host John Mulaney and musical guest Chappell Roan quickly turned the show away from politics and neither discussed the election. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) appeared as part of a sketch in which no one remembered his name even though he was the Democratic vice presidential candidate eight years ago.
Politicians have been appearing on “SNL” almost since the show debuted, with Gerald Ford making the first presidential appearance in April 1976. Donald Trump hosted the show in 2015, and Hillary Clinton also appeared that year.
